The fourth meeting of the Aviation Accident Investigation Group kicked off today, Sunday, in Riyadh, hosted by the National Transport Safety Center from November 2 to 3, under the theme “Enhancing Regional Aviation Safety through Cooperation.” The event brings together a number of experts and specialists from investigation authorities in regional countries, as well as representatives of regional and international organizations concerned with aviation safety. The forum comes as part of the Kingdom’s ongoing efforts to strengthen regional and international cooperation in the field of aviation safety, and to exchange expertise and knowledge in aviation accident investigation — supporting the development of advanced practices and enhancing safety levels across the aviation system. The meeting aims to share best practices in managing safety recommendations among investigation authorities in the region, discuss challenges related to the follow-up and implementation of safety recommendations, and transform them into effective corrective actions that ensure higher levels of safety. The forum also focuses on enhancing regional integration through the development of mechanisms for knowledge exchange and lessons learned, contributing to the reduction of accident recurrence, and reviewing the experiences of various countries in prioritizing and classifying safety recommendations, as well as the methods of closing and measuring their effectiveness. Participants are also contributing to the establishment of a joint regional platform for sharing safety recommendations, which will help achieve both regional and international aviation safety objectives — in line with the Kingdom’s vision of positioning itself as a leading center for advancing transport safety at both the regional and global levels. The CEO of the National Transport Safety Center, Captain Tayi Al-Shammari, emphasized that the forum aims to move from recommendations to action, and from action to real impact on the ground. He noted that participants, including international experts and representatives from investigation authorities and relevant entities, will review best international practices in managing safety recommendations and link them to institutional capabilities that drive real change in operational culture and safety performance. Captain Al-Shammari added that safety recommendations are among the most important tools for continuous improvement, as each recommendation can make a significant difference — whether by modifying emergency procedures, developing training programs, improving inspection processes at airports, or strengthening internal incident and occurrence reporting mechanisms. When implemented, these recommendations have an impact that extends beyond the concerned entity, helping raise safety standards at both the regional and global levels. The National Transport Safety Center remains committed to supporting regional efforts to establish a specialized platform for sharing safety recommendations, and to providing an effective collaborative environment that enhances regional aviation safety, achieves shared goals, and advances the transport system in line with international best practices.
